The Birth

Jesus Cares began as a cry. With street backrounds in our hearts, Pastor's Luis and Mayra began doing work in the inner city. Pastor Luis had an office donated in a housing development in New Jersey in 1990. He would walk the streets to befriend people that had drug addictions and he would send them to a christian rehabilitation program for help. It began slow with 4 to 6 contacts per month. As we prayed for direction, we were led to do an outreach giving out food, clothing, and hope. As we sought support from other ministries it appeared as though nobody cared or had time. In prayer my wife cried out, "Who cares?", instantly we both heard, "Jesus Cares!". We did the outreach and ministered that day to over 80 families! We knew, Jesus Cares was born!

Pastor Luis Leon

Pastor Luis Leon has been doing public speaking for over 27 years. While serving in the United States Air Force, he was awarded various commendations from NCO of the quarter to Air Passenger Agent of the Year during his first year of duty at a special duty assignment at Philadelphia International Airport. This duty station pulled 12 of the best Air Passenger Specialist from around the world, so to receive this award was truly a high honor! He also received a Communications Award distinguishing him above his peers with his communications skills. Mr. Leon has worked in different levels in corporate America using his motivational skills to encourage employees. Together with his wife they have created, “Da’ Place: A mobile career & educational training center.” They have networked with the public schools to do motivational sessions for Parents, Teachers, and Students. With a Degree in Business Management and as an Ordained Minister, Pastor Luis has dedicated his life toward helping others. He commits his time toward his children and is dedicated to his lovely wife and friend. His passion to encourage others is exemplified wherever he goes!

Pastor Mayra Leon

Pastor Leon is also a Mother, Prophetess, Teacher, Pastor and Deliverance Minister. She travels putting together women’s retreats under the name of “Virtuous Women.” She and her husband, Pastor Luis Leon, are the proud parents of 7 wonderful children. They both carry the ministry given to them since 1990 called “Jesus Cares.” They are also the founders of a Career Development and Motivational Youth Program called, Da’Place.
